The International Student Excellence Award recognizes academic excellence and a strong track record of achievements, providing essential financial support to help students achieve their educational goals at Iowa State.
Automatic scholarships for international first-year students
International first-year students who have been offered admission will be automatically awarded these renewable merit scholarships based on the high school GPA and SAT or ACT scores submitted during the admissions application process (SAT or ACT is required for scholarship eligibility). To be considered, students must have submitted their complete application for admission by May 1.
Scholarship award values
- President's Award for International Student Excellence: $48,000 ($12,000 per year)
- Dean's Award for International Student Excellence: $40,000 ($10,000 per year)
First-year recipients will receive funding for up to 8 semesters or until degree completion, whichever occurs first.
Eligibility
- Incoming international first-year students who have been offered admission.
- Automatic scholarship for students who meet specific GPA and SAT/ACT criteria (no separate scholarship application required).
- This scholarship cannot be combined with the International Merit Scholarship.
Renewal requirements
To maintain your scholarship during your time at Iowa State, you must meet the following criteria:
- President's Award: Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 while enrolled at Iowa State.
- Dean's Award: Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 while enrolled at Iowa State.
- Remain continuously enrolled in at least 12 semester credits each semester (summer semesters are not included).
- The scholarship is only available to students assessed international tuition.
- The award can only be applied toward undergraduate tuition and fees.
