Iowa State University offers merit scholarships to both first-year and transfer international students. These scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence and a demonstrated record of accomplishments, offering valuable financial support as students pursue their educational goals at Iowa State.
First-year international students
Merit scholarships are available for a limited number of high-achieving first-year international students. Selection is highly competitive and based on a holistic review of SAT/ACT scores and high school grades.
Scholarship amounts

Funding is available for up to 8 semesters or until degree completion, whichever comes first.

Eligibility
- Offered admission to Iowa State University as an international first-year student.
- Assessed international tuition rates.
- Accept your offer of admission by May 1 (fall) or December 15 (spring)
- Submit the OneApp application:
- Complete the General Application first.
- Then, under Opportunities > Recommended, select International Student Admissions Scholarship Application for your term.
Renewal requirements
- Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- Enroll in at least 12 credits per semester (excluding summer).
- Remain classified as an international student.
- Apply funds only toward undergraduate tuition and fees.
