2022 Cyclone Aide Class Announced
Forty-four Iowa State University students have been chosen to serve as Cyclone Aides for the upcoming year.
Cyclone Aides are student leaders who help facilitate the orientation and Destination Iowa State (DIS) programs. Throughout the year, Cyclone Aides will help welcome more than 5,000 incoming students.
Cyclone Aides introduce new students to campus and its resources, provide campus and residence hall tours, prepare students for academic advising appointments, serve on information panels, and create a welcoming environment at orientation.
During DIS, a welcome event that takes place prior to the start of classes, Cyclone Aides plan activities, help select and supervise Team Leaders, and assist in implementing the event.
“Cyclone Aides truly make all the difference during orientation and Destination Iowa State programming,” said Cassidy Conway, student development coordinator. “Without this team we would be at such a loss; they are the backbone to everything we do.”
The Cyclone Aide position offers students a rare opportunity to improve their speaking ability, professionalism, and time management skills, all while networking and forming lifelong friendships. Students are selected based on leadership, scholarship, enthusiasm, creativity, and previous work experience. They must also complete two rounds of interviews.
“The Cyclone Aide program is full of strong student leaders every year.” said Sarah Merrill, director of New Student Programs. “Cyclone Aides make a huge impact on our programming during orientation and Destination Iowa State. We enjoy watching the Cyclone Aides build connections with new students.”
This year's class of Cyclone Aides represents five countries, seven states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico.
“The Cyclone Aide Class of 2022 is a wonderful group of students,” Conway said. “Coming from all over the world, this group will have a huge impact on showcasing the amazing community that makes up our campus. I am so excited to watch this group interact with new students, share their story, and inspire the next class of Cyclones.”
