Entrepreneurial adventures

CYstarters is an accelerator where Iowa State students focus on

For some Iowa State students, working the typical 9 to 5 for someone else isn't what they envision for their future careers. These adventurers want to create a product or service from scratch. They want to pour their heart and soul into something no one's ever done before. That's why so many look to Iowa State's innovative entrepreneurial program, CYstarters, for help.

CYstarters is an accelerator where Iowa State students focus on their startup or business idea for 10 weeks during the summer. As a bonus, they even get paid to participate -- $6,500 for an individual or up to $13,000 per student team. It's a priceless experience, especially since participants learn valuable business skills while networking with other entrepreneurs. "The most rewarding part about CYstarters was getting to network and meet a variety of people," said Brady Trent, senior in mechanical engineering. "The people I met helped shape my company, as well as helped me grow as a person."

Thanks to programs like CYstarters, the entrepreneurial community at Iowa State will only continue to grow. If you think about it, this pairing makes perfect sense. After all, Ames is in the heart of the Silicon Prairie, aka: the Midwest's Silicon Valley. Plus, this type of program is something you can't find everywhere. "A lot of other universities don't offer a similar program," said Chris James, sophomore in entrepreneurship. "I had no idea Iowa State was fostering such a community of entrepreneurs when I first moved here, but I am forever grateful for it."

At Iowa State, you'll find all the support, resources, and connections you could ever want to help you succeed in your future endeavors. It doesn't matter if your major is entrepreneurship or chemistry. There's no doubt -- when you want to accelerate your future, becoming a Cyclone is the first step on your adventure.
