A mouthwatering adventure

Culinary science club members

The kitchen is bustling. We see a woman grab a whisk, while a man reaches for a spice he can't quite pronounce. If you didn't know any better, you might think you were watching a program on Food Network. But nope. It's Iowa State's annual Culinary Boot Camp, where students get a crash course in meal planning, food preparation and more.

This is just one of the many events put on by Iowa State's Culinary Science Club throughout the year. Be it an international cuisine cooking demonstration or a dietitian speaking about healthy eating, the club always finds inventive ways to engage students.

While the Culinary Science Club certainly helps students pursue their culinary ambitions, it's also an awesome opportunity for them to make new friends. Said Jared Diehl, junior in culinary food science, "The greatest thing about these events is that you can share your thoughts about food with other people who are just as interested in it as you are." Toluwani Awokoya, sophomore in nutritional science, agrees. "I have made a lot of friends since I joined, mainly because we share similar interests," he said.

If culinary science isn't your cup of tea, that's okay. Iowa State offers all kinds of clubs to pique your interests, from entrepreneurship and ophthalmology to Bollywood dance and collegiate 4-H. That you could meet your new BFF by joining one of our more than 800 clubs and groups on campus is just icing on the cake.
