Your next step after orientation!  

Cyclone 101 is an online course designed to help you feel confident, connected, and ready for your first semester at Iowa State. 

Why take Cyclone 101? 

  Build confidence for your first semester: Know what to expect and how to navigate your new home.  
  Discover campus resources: Find the tools and support that make life easier and help you succeed. 
  Learn strategies for academic success: Tips and tools to stay organized and engaged. 
  Plan for life outside the classroom: Get tips for managing finances and navigating housing and dining.
 Get a head start with Canvas: Learn the platform you’ll use for all your classes before the semester begins. 

We all need help sometimes—and that’s okay. Explore the resources available when you need support.

Who, when, and where?

Who: All incoming first-year students.

When: Students starting classes in May, June, or August will get access to Cyclone 101 in mid-July. Students starting classes in January will get access in early December. You’ll be automatically enrolled and notified when it’s available.

Time commitment: About 1 hour per module. Work at your own pace!  

Where: Online in Canvas. To access Canvas, log in to your Sign On Dashboard and click the Canvas button. You may need to search for the Canvas app the first time.
