Academic support
1076 Student Services Bldg., 4-6624
The center provides a variety of services aimed at helping students
succeed academically. Services are offered on an individual or small group
basis, and are tailored to specific courses or general academic help for
both credit and non-credit programs. Services include:
-
Consultants work one-on-one with students to evaluate and identify
problem study habits and develop strategies to improve them. Workshops are
scheduled throughout the year on topics such as test-taking strategies,
memorization, stress reduction and time management.
-
The center's coordinator works with students with disabilities to help them
get what they need to pursue their academic careers. The coordinator also is
available to serve as liaison in student-faculty negotiations, as well to
provide information, support and counseling.
-
Specialists provide a personal contact for students to discuss policies,
procedures, and academic and personal concerns.
-
This one-credit course, offered each semester, helps students deal with a
variety of learning issues. The course covers reading and study strategies
and tactics, time management and test taking.
-
Staff provide regularly scheduled study sessions for selected, difficult 100
and 200 level courses.
-
Tutoring is an on-going supplement to classroom learning and is available for
most undergradate courses. Tutoring sessions are held in small groups for two
hours per week. A nominal fee is charged to your U-bill and financial aid is
available from a variety of sources. Tutors can help you clarify course content and meet your goals. You can apply online to get a tutor or to
be a tutor.
