An adventure to keep active

You already know Iowa State’s campus is one of the most beautiful in the United States. But did you know it’s also one of the most active? In fact, just last year, Men’s Health magazine called Iowa State the No. 1 fittest college in the United States. Which makes it the perfect place for students to get moving.

Maybe one of the easiest ways Iowa Staters keep active is by following in the footsteps of thousands of students who’ve gone before them – by walking, biking, or skateboarding to class across our beautiful campus. And when they’re looking for an extra way to keep the freshman 15 at bay, they just put on their comfiest pair of kicks and join a game of ultimate frisbee or go for a run by Lake LaVerne.

When students want to stay inside for a game of basketball, volleyball, or racquetball, we offer topnotch workout facilities like the Lied Recreation Athletic Center. This is where they also can hit up an elliptical, rower, or free weights and take an aerobics or yoga class to stay in shape. For those who can’t get enough of rock climbing or swimming, State Gym was recently renovated so they can scale a 40-ft. climbing wall or take a dip in the recreation pool with 25-person spa attached.

Since exercise has been shown to boost immune systems, improve concentration, and relieve stress, staying active is more important for college students than ever before. That’s why all across campus, Iowa State features fun ways to keep fit – both inside and out. Now all students have to do is decide what sweatworthy activities sound good to them on their active adventure.
