Engineering is a piece of cake
Senior Mary Burroughs has always wanted to design unique structures. So naturally, she followed her passion to Iowa State to become a civil engineer. But her sweet tooth — and a love of baking one-of-a-kind cakes — convinced her to start her own business, Cake Engineering.
“Baking allows me to show my creative side,” Mary says. “To make a cake, you have to create a concept and apply it, just like with engineering.”
All around campus you’ll meet entrepreneurial students, like Mary, who are encouraged to follow their passion and as a result are creating an adventure through their dreams.
As for Mary, she is interning with the Federal Highway Administration this summer and baking some amazing cakes on the side.
