A residence hall rock band

Iowa State students Justin Whisler, Charles Bickett, Joe Quetsch-Bales and Lance Carlson take the idea of rocking out in your room to a new level. They all live together in Eaton Hall and are members of the rock band, "Tempest Rose." The band won ISU's Homecoming 2008 "Battle of the Bands."

Best friends on and off stage: The members have been best friends for more than 10 years. Their friendship began when all four earned Eagle Scout honors and they attended school together. But it wasn't until they talked at Whisler's sister's high school graduation party that they decided to form a band. Following their own graduations from Valley High School last May, they all headed to Iowa State.

Living the 'suite' life: Iowa State's residence system provides a four-person suite option and the Tempest Rose members have found that living arrangement to be to their liking when it comes to writing new music. They can easily kick around song ideas when the creative mood strikes.

Dreaming of fame and fortune: Tempest Rose shares the same dream of many young bands -- to become famous. And while the members have four different majors and diverse interests, they plan to travel that future road together -- even if it leads them overseas for study abroad.

"We developed a band from our friendship, not a friendship from a band -- and that's why I think we'll be successful. When I'm up there on stage with these guys, there's nowhere else I'd rather be."

Joe Quetsch-Bales, ISU freshman

The members of "Tempest Rose" are Iowa State University students. More Two-Minute briefs.
