Politically active

Although Maggie Luttrell isn't a political science major, she's definitely into politics.

"I'm very political and rightfully so," Maggie said. "My parents are both deaf and they (and I) have been discriminated against all our lives. Anything I can do to better other people's lives, I will."

Councilwoman: Luttrell is serving a one-year term on the Ames City Council. She was appointed to represent students in city government and to help the city reach out to students. She is an active participant in the City Council meetings -- especially when an issue directly impacts Iowa State students.

"I still want to change the world. It hasn't defeated me too badly yet."

Vice president: Luttrell's next political stint starts in April, when she assumes the vice presidency of Iowa State's Government of the Student Body.

Introducing Hillary: A history and women's studies major, Luttrell also serves as the co-president of the Catt Associates, a student group affiliated with the Catt Center for Women and Politics. In that capacity, she introduced Senator Hillary Clinton to an audience of 1,700 on campus last fall.

"I never thought I would be the person I am today and do the things I have done."
