ISU hits $300 million early,
extends campaign goal to $425 million

With a $300 million goal reached 21 months ahead of schedule, Iowa State University is extending the largest fund-raising campaign in its history to $425 million. Included in the extended campaign goal is a major fund-raising initiative aimed at transforming the ISU College of Business. Other fund-raising initiatives involve a Global Center for Agricultural and Rural Development, Reiman Gardens, the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, a 4-H/Extension Building and an ISU Honors Program Building. Bring a buck, build a home
KCCQ radio personality Matt McNeil will live in Iowa State's campanile Sept. 23-24 for the "Bring a buck, build a home" fund-raising campaign. Funds are sought for a Habitat for Humanity house, which will be built by students and community members during homecoming week, Oct. 5-9. McDonald's restaurants will match funds raised during the two-day event. More.

Video highlight of ISU-Iowa game
Fans can purchase a highlight tape of Iowa State's recent football win over Iowa. The 45-min. tape features big plays, post-game celebrations and a musical tribute. A portion of the proceeds will go to the ISU athletic department. The total cost for Iowa residents (includes sales tax) is $23.65. Out-of-state orders cost $22.45. Iowa State faculty, staff and students recycled 150 tons of white paper in FY98. The largest amounts of recycled paper came from the following buildings:

Famed metal sculptor visits
Albert Paley, nationally known sculptor, will speak at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, in Benton Auditorium, Scheman Building. His talk is titled, "Albert Paley: The Pursuit of Form -- A 30-Year Evolution in Decorative Arts and Sculpture." The Rochester, N.Y-based sculptor integrates art and architecture in his monumental metalwork, which is show in major museums. A reception will be held in the Brunnier Art Museum following the talk.

Online directory now includes departments, offices
Administrative, service and departmental office listings are now available on the online phone directory. To access the new feature from the phone directory page, click the blue bar labeled "search directory for departments and offices." The listings are the same as those in the front section of the Iowa State Directory. Cheryl Langston, supervisor of telecommunications services, said the online listings will be updated as needed. The online phone directory draws about 150,000 hits monthly.

Stop-Smoking group begins Sept. 22
A stop-smoking group for students, faculty, staff, and community members will begin Tuesday, Sept. 22. The group will meet weekly for eight weeks and will include stress and weight management, relaxation, and fitness components. The cost is $20 ($10 refund for perfect attendance). The first meeting will be at 7 p.m., Sept. 22, at the Student Health Center. Pre-registration is appreciated, but not required. Call Randy Mayer, (515) 294-2722, for information or to register.
