University response to heightened alert
When federal Homeland Security officials declare the terrorist threat level to be "high" (orange) or "severe" (red), Iowa State University police officers and other personnel will take the following protective measures:
  • Coordinate necessary security efforts with the armed forces and/or additional law enforcement agencies.
  • Increase precautions at public events, including the inspection of patrons and bags.
  • Review plans to restrict access to critical facilities.
  • Enhance security at critical facilities.
  • Announce the threat ("high" or "severe") condition to the campus community.
  • Activate an emergency operations center, if necessary.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of facilities.
  • Increase vehicle, foot and bicycle patrol.
  • Alter on-campus traffic patterns and parking, as appropriate.
  • Coordinate the sharing of information through local, state, federal and private resources.
