What's official, what isn't

Official web pages

Web sites developed for colleges, departments or other units of the university are considered official web sites. Departments and units are responsible for the content of their pages. Every web page should include a contact for comments and suggestions.

All official pages are subject to state and federal laws and university policies and standards of conduct, including the Code of Computer Ethics.

Personal web sites

All Iowa State students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to publish personal homepages on the web, and thousands have done so. These pages allow their creators to explore new technologies and enhance skills for life in the information age.

Personal web pages do not reflect official university positions. They are the sole responsibilities of their authors and are subject to state and federal laws and university policies and standards of conduct, including the Code of Computer Ethics. Comments and questions about personal pages should be directed to their authors.

The university doesn't preview or monitor personal pages. Complaints to university officials about personal pages are investigated and appropriate actions are determined on a case-by-case basis. Requests for university review of personal pages should be directed to mbowman@iastate.edu.
