Get web space

For official sites

Here are the most common ways to get web space for your department or unit.

  • If your college or department has its own server, contact the server coordinator to get space for your homepage.
  • If you need space for a unit at the departmental level or above, you can request 50 MB of free web space on the university server. The URL will look like this: http://www.iastate.edu/~yourdepartment. Register your site after getting space.
  • Web Development Services offers "virtual web hosting," a fee-based service that includes 1G of space and a URL that looks like this: http://www.yourdepartment.iastate.edu.
  • Web space also can be rented at inexpensive rates. Sign onto Acropolis. Select "manage fileSystems" then "create a fileSystem" and highlight "GENERAL." Register your site after getting space. For more info on this option, contact the Solution Center, 294-4000.

For academic courses

To request space for your course web pages, sign in at the Acropolis web site. Select "manage fileSystems" and then "create a fileSystem." Select "class" when asked which filesystem you wish to create. Register your site after getting space.

For student organizations

Student organizations that are registered with the Student Activities Center apply for web space through the center.

For personal pages

If you're an Iowa State student or member of the faculty or staff, you can create a web homepage in a portion of the space that's assigned to you when you obtain a NET-ID. You can register for a web site online.

Iowa State students, faculty and staff have free space for personal web pages.
