Taylor sets scoring, rebounding recordsDifficult as everyone predicted it would be, the Cyclone basketball squads reclaimed several of their conference titles this spring. With a 13-3 record against Big 12 foes, Larry Eustachy's squad recaptured the men's regular season title it won a year ago. Twelve days later, the second-seeded Cyclones were stunned by Hampton University of Virginia, 58-57, in the first round of the NCAA tournament.Coach Bill Fennelly's team beat the Oklahoma Sooners, regular season champions, in the title game of the women's Big 12 tournament in Kansas City. Senior Megan Taylor (above), who set career rebounding and scoring records at Iowa State this year, led the way with 28 points, also a record for the tournament title game. In their own NCAA tournament, the Cyclone women advanced to the Sweet 16 for the third year in a row before running into a tall Vanderbilt squad. |
