Designing faculty

Nancy Polster and Timothy McIlrath know a lot about the art of giving. Gifts to Campaign Destiny by these two faculty members will provide lasting benefits for College of Design faculty and staff.

Polster ('60) has given the college deferred and outright gifts totaling $650,000, which will fund two faculty awards and student scholarships. One award will help art and design faculty cover expenses for professional development and exhibitions. The other recognizes teaching and advising with a $1,000 annual award to a faculty member. The scholarships will be used to recruit and retain minority design students.

A $400,000 gift from associate professor McIlrath will support several faculty and student activities. The gift will fund faculty participation in national and international exhibitions, as well as ongoing exhibitions in Gallery 181, the college's teaching gallery. McIlrath earmarked $200,000 of his gift to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender concerns on campus.

McIllrath and Polster are just two examples of how Iowa State faculty, staff and retirees made an impact on Campaign Destiny, contributing $14.2 million to the campaign over five years.
