Everyone's a winner when new answer center opens in Beardshear

The centerpiece of a major remodeling project under way in Beardshear Hall is an expanded Student Answer Center on the ground floor. When all the work is completed in November 2002, this piece of the $5.7 million project will give students convenient access to university services such as financial aid, career services and class registration. Other components of the remodeling will enlarge the central entry on the first floor and improve the building's safety and accessibility, said campus architect Steve Prater.

Under the plan, a central help desk on Beardshear's ground floor will be the focal point of the Student Answer Center, a one-stop spot for students to enroll in classes, pay bills and get answers to all sorts of questions. A permanent center for Beardshear was designed in response to high student use of a pilot student answer center that opened two years ago.

"One of the main objectives will be to make the building more friendly, lighter and warmer for our students and everyone else who uses it," Prater said.
