ISU choirs cut a CDThe Iowa State choirs are featured on a compact disc available from the music department. Under the Campanile features 72 minutes of performances recorded during the last 18 months. Selections on the CD include Danny Boy, A Fascinatin' Rhythm, O Sifuni Mungu and The Songs of Iowa State, a medley of ISU school and fight songs covering 70 years. The CD costs $15 and is available from the Choral Music Office, Music Department, 115 Music Building, Iowa State University, 50011; phone (515) 294-2810.
Bach, his wayA new compact disc by Lynn Zeigler offers classical music fans a chance to hear Bach the way he intended people to hear his music.Zeigler is featured on Iowa State's Brombaugh organ, a copy of an 18th century German organ. The organ has an "unequal temperament," which means its pitch and the octave intervals differ from today's instruments but are similar to those of Bach's time. WOI Radio chief engineer Dave Knippel did the recording for the CD. Part of the proceeds of the CD sale will fund scholarships for music students. Jazz poetry, rhythm and bluesISU creative writing professor Debra Marquart recently released a book of poetry and a companion compact disc.Everything's A Verb is a book of 41 Marquart poems that deal with issues of silencing, violence, flight and yearning to escape. The book is $9.95 and can be purchased in bookstores or by calling New Rivers Press at 1-800-339-2011. A Regular Dervish, a CD companion to the book, features 18 poems that fuse spoken word with percussion and string accompaniment by The Bone People.
