The Voters of Madison Co.
OI Radio launched an election-year program in June that could make
Madison County as famous for its voters as it is for its bridges.The Voters of Madison County is a citizens forum that is gathering several times this election year for group discussions on issues, politics and candidates. The discussions are used for news stories and other special WOI AM and FM broadcasts.
The project is an effort to advance "civic journalism," in which the people of the community largely determine the issues and course of discussion, rather than debate issues shaped by the media and politicians, said Rick Lewis, former WOI Radio station manager.
The 18 citizens in the group include farmers, small business owners, community leaders, students, an accountant, a minister and insurance agent.
The last session will be recorded in early October for broadcast later in the month.
