Scholarship honors Frederiksen

olleagues of Chuck Frederiksen have established a student leader-ship award in his honor. The former director of residence at Iowa State retired June 30, after nearly 45 years with the department.

Beginning next spring, the Frederiksen Leadership Award will be given annually to students who are involved in peer government in the residence halls or student apartments and who demonstrate outstanding leadership.

Organizers have set their fund-raising goal at $25,000, with each scholarship award expected to exceed $500.

The award recognizes that leadership is an essential part of what students need to gain while they're in school, said Pat Robinson, coordinator of ISU residence life.

Frederiksen's association with the ISU residence department began in 1949, when he lived in Friley Hall as a freshman. He became an assistant director in 1960 and director in 1967.

Alumni who would like to know more about the Frederiksen Leadership Award may contact Robinson, (515) 294-5637, or Carl Moen, (515) 294-5360.
