Cyclones in Atlanta
They didn't go for the gold, but to help. A bevy of Cyclones volunteered their expertise at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Jim Nespor, a physical therapist and trainer in the athletic department, assisted boxing teams from around the world during their final training prior to the competitions.
Tera Hansen, a department of public safety officer, did a six-week stint on the professional security force for the games.
Erin Davison, assistant director of athletic media relations, worked in press row for judo. Two of Davisons student assistants, volleyball player Stephanie Dohrn and former Cyclone pitcher Thad Dohrn who married three days before they departed also took media assignments in Atlanta.
Seventeen members of the Iowa State cheer squad successfully auditioned to become part of the larger collegiate team that performed at the opening ceremonies.
