Burgers scrubbed for Hub
lans for a McDonald's restaurant in a corner of the Hub were dropped this
fall. A McDonald's in the Hub was part of the Memorial Union's bid for the
campus vending contract. Officials awarded the bid, minus the McDonald's, and
decided later not to pursue the option. Some in the campus community
objected to the proposal, citing potential damage to the nearby library
collection from the restaurant exhaust and food carried into the library, a
desire for healthier food choices and the presence of corporate America in
the campus core.
