Jollop Slept Here -- Landscape Architecture The brick structure was completed in 1900 and for nearly three decades, served as a two-story, state-of-the-art horse barn. Residents included Jollop, a Perchron stallion and grand champion at the 1915 World's Fair in San Francisco. The newly organized landscape architecture department moved into the refurbished former barn in 1929. To accommodate humans, workers lifted the roof to create space for larger windows, added a third floor and removed large doors on the west side. However, the barn's cupola survived the redesign. Landscape architecture departed in 1978 for the new College of Design Center. Still called Landscape Architecture, the facility today is home to the English department's Intensive English and Orientation Program. _____ contact: Anne Dolan, University Relations, (515) 294-7065 updated: 9-28-95
