Kudos for McCracken
Iowa State alumus Ed McCracken ('66) is a very popular businessman. From industry to government, the chairman and CEO of Silicon Graphics Inc. has been receiving kudos for leading his firm to the cutting edge of the computer graphics industry.
In October, McCracken received the National Medal of Technology from President Bill Clinton during a White House ceremony and was named Executive of the Year by R&D Magazine. The Medal of Technology, considered the highest honor awarded in the United States for technological achievement, recognized McCracken's "ground-breaking work in the areas of affordable three-dimensional visual computing and super-computing technologies" and "his technical and leadership skills in building Silicon Graphics into a global advanced technology company."
R&D Magazine called McCracken "the man responsible for turning the Mountain View, Calif., computer graphics company into a $2.2 billion concern."
